We are Tchelal Foods, a family-owned business on a mission to participate in improving the well-being and health of our customers by offering them fonio, an ancient gluten-free grain rich in nutritional values, and other african healthy products to add to their diet.

Established in 2019, our online shop includes African products like pre-cooked fonio and fonio flour. As we expand, we plan on introducing a variety of ingredients and products catering to the needs of families living in Canada. Join us on our journey!

Meet Fatimatou

Fati worked in many roles in the non-profit sector throughout her professional career before starting a path towards entrepreneurship in 2019. In fact, her late father, Boubacar Biro Barry, who had found success building a portfolio of businesses, was partly the reason Fati wanted to work for herself. He once told her that starting a business could be one of the most beautiful endeavours because of a) the impact she’d be making and b) the legacy she’d be leaving behind. Throughout the years, his advice stuck with her and mentally prepared her to pursue her passion, ultimately guiding her to share her talents with the world.

Meet Yaye

Yaye is a graduate of Drexel University, where she majored in Marketing and International Business. Yaye’s experience and expertise will be utilized to grow the Company from a marketing and international business perspective.

Yaye has always been a person who values her wellbeing. A mom of three children, she knows firsthand that feeding her family nutritious and diverse foods is part of what will help keep them healthy for years to come. Keeping that in mind, Yaye is committed to encouraging others to gather their family members around the table and share an African meal rich in flavour, sustenance, culture and love.

Meet Sakinatou

With an educational background in economic sciences, Sakinatou puts her strategic business thinking hat on to help nurture our brand mission and values. Having immigrated to Canada in 2017, she embraced the opportunity to pursue entrepreneurship, knowing that like her sisters, next to independence, health and spirituality are also top priorities for her.
